No limitations for expansion of Iran-Uzbekistan ties: Pres. Raisi

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has no limitations for expanding ties with Uzbekistan in various areas.

In a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov on Tuesday, Raisi pointed to the shared concerns between Iran and Uzbekistan on the situation in Afghanistan, adding that the presence of alien countries, the US in particular, in Afghanistan has no outcome but calamity and bloodshed.

He also mentioned the presence of about 4 million Afghan nationals in Iran and Tehran’s continued humanitarian assistance to Afghan people, expressing hope that the ministerial meeting of Afghanistan's neighbors to be held in Tehran on Wednesday would lead to a shared solution to concerns.

The Uzbek Foreign Minister pointed the great potentials Iran and Uzbekistan have for expansion of relations and expressed Tashkent's determination to leverage the potentials.

He noted that great powers couldn’t do anything for Afghanistan, adding that the meeting in Tehran was of high political significance and Uzbekistan would fully support its outcome.

Peace and stability in the region would benefit all countries, the Uzbek top diplomat highlighted, adding that Uzbekistan sought close cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran on bilateral and international areas.

The Uzbek Foreign Minister is in Iran to participate in Afghanistan neighbors' meeting.
